I'm Erin DeBrota, the founder of Personality Science.
Since 2007, I have been working one-on-one with clients to help clarify their best career direction. I have a Master of Science in Adult Education with an emphasis in neuropsychology, and combine psychometric methods with deep experience in individualized advising. My approach emphasizes clarity, respect for privacy, and direct, practical recommendations: I administer a comprehensive assessment battery, synthesize the results into a useful, informative report, and meet with you to translate findings into realistic career and training options. I use a whole-person process, as I recognize the importance of integrating your many unique characteristics. My process is exclusively one-on-one and focused on individuals. I meet with clients remotely (video consultations), and send written reports by mail for clients in the United States. |
Questions I'm often asked
How do you differ from a career coach?As a career strategist, I leverage career assessments, career tests and self-report data to provide career guidance, career clarity, and direction. Every analysis is objective and data-driven, designed for a single, in-depth consultation, focused on delivering clear, actionable guidance. Career coaches frequently meet with clients in multiple sessions and focus on outcomes such as skills development, therapeutic exploration, and job-search support.
Do you perform intelligence, aptitude, or skills testing?I consider indicators of past perormance such as GPA, degrees, or standardized test scores. I do not administer IQ, aptitude, or skills tests. My focus is not on quantifying intelligence, but on helping clients identify career paths that align with their demonstrated personality characteristics, interests, and values.
Do you help high school students determine what universities to apply to?I often find that school choice is influenced significantly by considerations such as where it is located, what it costs to attend, where family members attended, or where friends plan to attend. I typically focus on what to study rather than where.

How do you decide which assessments to use?My choices have been influenced by years of experience and by continuous study of alternatives. I favor assessments with extensive and/or recent validation available, including the Myers-Briggs. Some career testing services only use one or two assessments, but I have found that results from just one or two assessments are too broad on their own to truly understand individual differences. Therefore, I use a large battery of assessments and have also developed some assessments specifically for Personality Science.
Where are you located?I am based in central Indiana, and serve clients in Indianapolis, Carmel, Zionsville, and NATIONWIDE. All of my consultations are live via videoconference.
Do you help high school students determine what they should major in?Yes. I help students and those who might wish to return to school or obtain additional training choose a major that is best for them, based on my analysis of their results.
Do you ever recommend the trades?I do suggest the trades, certifications, and other options that don't require bachelor's or graduate training when they are an excellent fit.
